New tenants for the Café Leopold

Gyoza Brothers Group takes over Leopold Museum gastronomy
Vienna (OTS) – The Leopold Museum Private Foundation has been able to secure a renowned and innovative operator for the Café Leopold in the shape of the famous Viennese gastronomy group Gyoza Brothers. A ten-year lease was signed a few days ago. The group is made up of Tie Yang, Jun Yang, Dong Ngo and Adam Gortvai – all four of them important fixtures of Vienna’s gastronomy scene.
The Leopold Museum’s Director Hans-Peter Wipplinger: “After 15 years, the Café Leopold was in urgent need of renovation. While it was important to us to maintain the café’s original character, some parts have been redesigned in order to accommodate its future use as a café/restaurant. The café, which will be a non-smoking facility, will cater to museum visitors from all over the world as well as to regular guests of the MuseumsQuartier.”
The group surrounding Tie Yang, which has been operating restaurants for over 15 years, is known for providing culinary diversity and sumptuous surprises with an emphasis on South-Asian and Chinese delicacies. The new Café Leopold will be characterized by an exciting mix of Asian and international cuisine, along with Austrian classics served in the area adjacent to the museum. The group stands for individual service and high quality, while the idea of internationalism and cosmopolitanism behind the new restaurant concept is a perfect fit for the Leopold Museum which, attracting more than 350,000 visitors every year, represents a tourist hot spot in the center of Vienna.
Among the group’s established restaurants are “ra’mien”, “Shanghai Tan” as well as various “ra’mien go” outlets in Vienna. The café at the Leopold Museum is scheduled to open in June 2017.
The Managing Director of the Leopold Museum Gabriele Langer: “The renovation work, which involves not only the seating areas but also the kitchen and toilet facilities, has already begun. We will unveil the new concept, including the restaurant’s name, cuisine and design, together with representatives of the MuseumsQuartier and the new operators during a press conference to be held at the new café in mid-June.”
The gastronomical quartet will operate both the Café Leopold including its terrace as well as the ground-floor restaurant situated next to the water basin. This latter area, which is located in the MuseumsQuartier’s main square directly in front of the Leopold Museum, will already be operational in time for the MQ’s summer opening on 18th May.
The Director of the MuseumsQuartier Christian Strasser is delighted with the choice of caterers and views the new tenants as an enrichment to the area’s gastronomical diversity: “With their innovative concept, Gyoza Brothers will offer new culinary highlights in the MuseumsQuartier and will make the range of restaurants even more diverse. I am delighted that this attractive site will soon be operational again.”
Innovative architecture and contemporary art have played an important role in all of the new tenants’ restaurant ventures. The restaurant’s visual concept was designed by the international artist Jun Yang in cooperation with local architectural offices. The design team for the Café Leopold further includes Klaus Schwarzenegger as executive planner.
