In November 2023, the Leopold Museum was awarded the Austrian Ecolabel "Österreichisches Umweltzeichen"!

What does the Austrian Ecolabel stand for?

The Austrian Ecolabel was launched in 1990 on the initiative of the Federal Ministry of the Environment. Today, it is considered the most important nationally certified ecolabel in Austria. The distinction is awarded exclusively to products, institutions and services that fulfil not only a variety of criteria related to the protection of the environment but also meet high standards in terms of quality and sustainability. As such, the Austrian ecolabel helps environmentally conscious consumers make everyday buying decisions. The quality seal is an indicator of the importance a company attaches to environmental quality.

The seal’s artistic logo is based on a design by the Austrian artist and environmental pioneer Friedensreich Hundertwasser: It symbolizes the elements earth, water, air and nature. The Leopold Museum dedicated a comprehensive monographic exhibition to this eminent artist back in 2020. Throughout the past 30 years, the Austrian Ecolabel has evolved continuously.

The Leopold Museum’s sustainability goals are:

  • We are Austrian Ecolabel certified since November 2023.
