Free admission and special guided tours for this successful exhibition’s finale
Vienna (OTS) – The highly successful exhibition "Alberto Giacometti. Modernist Pioneer" is coming to a close. The presentation will be on display until this coming Monday, when the LeopoldMuseum will be inviting all art enthusiasts to visit the exhibition for free! On Monday, the 26th of January 2015, admission to the Leopold Museum will be free of charge between 2 pm and 6 pm!
Last Giacometti weekend: free guided tours, Giacometti film
For the last weekend of the Giacometti exhibition, the Leopold Museum is offering exclusive guided tours. On Saturday, Sunday and Monday, the final day of the presentation, three Giacometti tours will be held at 2 pm, 3 pm and 4 pm respectively. The famous "Alberto Giacometti" film by Ernst Scheidegger will be shown in the auditorium. Additionally, two guided tours of the current Arik Brauer exhibition will be held on Sunday at 11 am and 12 pm.
Giacometti: one of the Leopold Museum’s most successful exhibitions
"The Giacometti presentation is without a doubt among the LeopoldMuseum’s most successful exhibitions" according to Leopold Museum Managing Director Peter Weinhäupl. "This impressive presentation of works reflecting all periods from the oeuvre of arguably the most important 20th century sculptor as well as the most comprehensive Arik Brauer retrospective to date have contributed significantly to last year’s increase in visitors to our museum" sums up Weinhäupl.
LeopoldMuseum: marked increase in visitors thanks to Schiele,Klimt, Giacometti and Brauer
Approximately 350,000 art enthusiasts (exact number: 349,689 visitors) flocked to the museum in 2014 to see its permanent presentation of masterpieces by Schiele, Klimt & Co. as well as the special exhibitions "And Yet There Was Art! Austria 1914-1918", "Line & Shape. 100 Master Drawings from the Leopold Collection", "Alberto Giacometti. Modernist Pioneer" and "Arik Brauer. Gesamt.Kunst.Werk". This represents an increase of approximately 10 % compared to the previous year (exact number: 7.4 %; 2013: 325,459 visitors).
Successful cooperation with the Kunsthaus Zürich: Giacometti – Schiele exchange
At the closing of the Giacometti exhibition, Franz Smola, the Museological Director (interim) of the LeopoldMuseum, once again expresses his gratitude to the Kunsthaus Zürich “for this unique cooperation, which enabled us to present an unparalleled variety of works by Alberto Giacometti, the most renowned sculptor of the 20th century, at the Leopold Museum”. In return, an eminent selection of masterpieces by Egon Schiele from the LeopoldMuseum was shown up until a few days ago at the Kunsthaus in the Swiss metropolis for the exhibition "Egon Schiele – Jenny Saville". "We are particularly delighted with the positive feedback we have received from visitors to the exhibition, from journalists and of course from our colleagues from the Kunsthaus Zürich and the Giacometti foundations in Zurich and Paris with regards the innovative and bold architectural design of our Giacometti presentation" says Smola.
Egon and Wally: setting up the first new exhibition in 2015
Extensive work on the construction of the Leopold Museum’s first new exhibition in 2015 is due to start in February: "Wally Neuzil. Her Life with Egon Schiele" will be shown from the 27th of February 2015 (opening: Thursday, 26th February 2015, 7 pm) on the third floor of the museum, the first presentation dedicated to the life of Walburga Neuzil (1894-1917). Between 1911 and 1915 Wally was Schiele’s muse, source of inspiration, lover and companion. This period also marks the pinnacle of Schiele’s expressive oeuvre. Along with masterpieces by Schiele from Austrian and international collections, the exhibition will feature photographs and personal documents from the life of the artist and his partner that have rarely or never been publicly shown. The exhibition and its accompanying catalogue also shed light on the darker aspects of the era around 1900, especially on the precarious situation for woman from "humble backgrounds" on the job market. Occasioned by the Wally exhibition on the third floor, the museum will also show a new presentation of its permanent Schielecollection.
