Gustav Klimt Center presents landscape at the place of its creation
Vienna (OTS) – For the third year running, the Klimt Center in Kammer on the Attersee will be presenting an eminent masterpiece by Gustav Klimt (1862-1918) from the collection of the Leopold Museum in Vienna. Around the time of the artist’s birthday, yet another important Attersee landscape, this time Klimt’s "Large Poplar", will be shown from the 12th of July 2014.
The Gustav Klimt Center enters its third year
The Gustav Klimt Center opened in Kammer-Schörfling on the 14th of July 2012, the 150th birthday of Gustav Klimt. Together with his close friend, the fashion designer Emilie Flöge, the world-famous artist regularly spent the summer months between 1900 and 1916 on the Attersee. Inspired by the turquoise blue water of the lake, the surrounding woods, blooming meadows and cottage gardens, Klimt created the majority of his landscapes on the Attersee.
Cooperation with the Leopold Museum
The Klimt Center’s cooperation with the Vienna Leopold Museum – its exhibitions are organized by the Managing Director of the Leopold Museum Mag. Peter Weinhäupl – made it possible already in the center’s opening year in 2012 for an original painting by Klimt, "On Lake Attersee", to return to the place of its creation for the first time in over 100 years. While the Klimt Center hosted Klimt’s Egelsee landscape "A Morning by the Pond" in 2013, this year the focus will once again be a motif from the landscape surrounding the Attersee, "The Large Poplar II". Additionally, the exhibition will feature other interesting poplar depictions from the turn of the century - the "Poplar-Lined Avenue near Plankenberg" created around 1890 by the Austrian Atmospheric Impressionist Emil Jakob Schindler (1842-1892) from the Leopold Collection, as well as the privately owned and equally atmospheric rendering "Poplars on the Riverside" created around 1905 by the co-founder of the Vienna Secession Wilhelm List (1864-1918).

The tourist board of the holiday region Attersee-Salzkammergut, the association "Klimt on the Attersee" and the Vienna Leopold Museum are holding a press conference followed by a preview to open the presentation of the 1902 original masterpiece by Gustav Klimt (1862-1918):
"The Large Poplar II (Gathering Storm)" on Saturday, the 12th of July 2014, at 10.00 am at the Klimt Café of the Gustav Klimt Center in Kammer on the Attersee

Peter Weinhäupl, the Museological Director (interim) of the Leopold Museum Dr. Franz Smola, the chairlady of the association Klimt on the Attersee Käthe Zwach as well as Eva Knoll, chair of the tourist board of the holiday region Attersee-Salzkammergut. Dr. Maria Fekter, member of the Austrian parliament, will also be in attendance.
10.45 am: guided tour through the Gustav Klimt Center for guests of honor; 12 noon (approx.): opening of the Klimt Center to all visitors!

Duration of the exhibition:
The Klimt original "The Large Poplar" from the collection of the Leopold Museum will be presented at the Gustav Klimt Center on the Attersee from the 12th of July to the 24th of July 2014.
Guided tours of the Klimt original:
Special guided tours of the original Klimt painting will be offered by Mag. Alexandra Matzner and Mag. Marco Antonio Ricci on Saturday, the 12th of July and on Sunday, the 13th of July, at 12 noon, 1 pm, 2 pm, 3 pm and 4 pm, duration: approx. 30 minutes. Meeting point: Gustav Klimt Center, Attersee
