OPEN FOR ART… AND FOR VISIONS OF THE FUTURE

On Wednesday, 15th November 2023, the Leopold Museum and OMV celebrate St. Leopold’s Day with a varied program for all the family. Offering free admission from 10 am to 9 pm, the program includes guided tours through the current exhibitions on the avant-garde of Modernism – Vienna 1900, Max Oppenheimer, Gabriele Münter –, access to the popular LEO Kids Studio as well as cool AI workshops for teenagers.

Family Program with Guided Tours, Kids Studio and AI Workshop

Marking St. Leopold’s Day on 15th November, the Leopold Museum is once again #OFFENFÜRKUNST [open for art], offering free admission and a varied program for the whole family, including workshops, access to the Kids Studio and guided tours. Under this year’s motto “Visions of the Future”, the Leopold Museum – in cooperation with its long-standing sponsoring partner OMV – invites young visitors and adults alike to think about their visions of the future and to imagine a better world of tomorrow. Young children are given the opportunity to turn their ideas into art at the LEO Kids Studio, while teenagers are able to imagine tomorrow’s world in AI workshops with the help of artificial intelligence. The program further includes free guided tours throughout the day for all ages of the permanent presentation Vienna 1900 and the museum’s current special exhibitions.

Shaping the Future with Courage and Creativity

Visitors can derive inspiration from the wealth of ideas of Viennese Modernism and from the works shown in the special exhibitions Gabriele Münter. Retrospective and Max Oppenheimer. Expressionist Pioneer. With their trend-setting ideas and groundbreaking works, the protagonists of Classical Modernism continue to influence our art, culture and society to this day. On St. Leopold’s Day, the artistic masterminds of the 20th century will encounter innovative technologies and the next generation of young pioneers, who are called upon to shape their own visions of the future with courage and creativity. Seeing the works of revolutionary artists of the past will inspire visitors to embark on new paths, to be guided by ground-breaking and epochal innovations like AI, and to come up with their own visions of the future.

Precursors of Modernism

In its comprehensive presentation Vienna 1900, the Leopold Museum honors the precursors of Modernism, all of whom are artists of world renown today, such as Gustav Klimt, Oskar Kokoschka, Egon Schiele and Broncia Koller-Pinell. The current exhibitions on the oeuvres of the Expressionists Gabriele Münter and Max Oppenheimer showcase two further eminent artists of the 20th-century avant-garde.

Visions of the Future for Sustainable Change

Drawing up visions of the future is an essential task for institutions and enterprises. Facilitating innovative, future-oriented developments, showing positive ways forward and tackling substantial change is just as important for Austria’s art and cultural institutions as it is for the country’s commercial enterprises.

Director Hans-Peter Wipplinger points out that the Leopold Museum, which is among Austria’s leading art institutions, is constantly taking measures to make its operations more energy efficient, greener and fit for the future. Recently, the museum qualified for the Austrian ecolabel Österreichisches Umweltzeichen.

“We are delighted that our cooperation and partnership with OMV allows us to celebrate St. Leopold’s Day for the third year running, inviting visitors to enjoy a free art program at the Leopold Museum. This year’s program for kids, teenagers and adults, titled ‘Visions of the Future’, offers exciting guided tours through our current exhibitions, the opportunity to visit the LEO Kids Studio and to take part in special AI workshops.”

Hans-Peter Wipplinger, Director of the Leopold Museum

Inexhaustible Power of Art as a Foundation for a Better World of Tomorrow

Under the motto “Visions of the Future”, the Leopold Museum and its sponsoring partner OMV will mark this year’s St. Leopold’s Day with a celebration of the inexhaustible power of art to link the past, present and future, aiming to give a forum to visitors’ ideas, wishes and dreams. Through art, we are hoping to find new perspectives and answers to the questions of our time – from artificial intelligence to paths into a more sustainable future for society. And who knows – perhaps, the drawings that will be created in the Leopold Museum’s Kids Studio on 15th November 2023 will provide the foundations for a better world of tomorrow.
