LEOPOLD MUSEUM DIRECTOR HANS-PETER WIPPLINGER CONGRATULATES ANAÍTALA DIAS FROM DUBLIN

Less than three months after opening, the highly successful presentation AMAZING. THE WÜRTH COLLECTION has already been visited by more than 100,000 exhibition-goers. Leopold Museum Director Hans-Peter Wipplinger, the curator of the exhibition, welcomed the 100,000th visitor, Anaítala Dias, on Monday, 3rd July 2023, presenting the art enthusiast with a colorful bouquet of summer flowers and the exhibition’s comprehensive catalogue.

Born in the Brazilian coastal city of Rio de Janeiro, Anaítala Dias lives and works as a UX / UI (User Experience / User Interface) designer in the Irish capital Dublin. Miss Dias was accompanied by the Italian Salvatore Correnti, who also lives in Dublin. For both of them, it was their first visit to Vienna. The souvenir photo within the AMAZING exhibition in the Leopold Museum’s lower atrium was taken in front of an object made from painted fiberglass, created in 2012 by the artist Anish Kapoor (born in 1954), which captivates with its intense red color.

Featuring 200 works by 75 artists, the exhibition AMAZING. THE WÜRTH COLLECTION reflects the astounding diversity of Modernist and contemporary art production in the most comprehensive presentation of the Würth Collection in Austria to date.

The Würth Collection is among the largest private collections in Europe and one of the most eminent art collections worldwide. The collector Prof. Reinhold Würth gave the Leopold Museum’s Director Hans-Peter Wipplinger carte blanche to choose around 200 highlights from the approximately 19,000 works comprised in the collection. The exhibition allows visitors to embark on a unique journey through more than 100 years of art history. One emphasis within the presentation of the collection is on Classical Modernism, with masterpieces by Edvard Munch, Pablo Picasso, Max Liebermann, Gabriele Münter, Max Beckmann, Max Pechstein and Hans Arp. Another focus is on contemporary art, with works by Fernando Botero, Per Kirkeby, the artist couple Christo and Jeanne Claude, Gerhard Richter, Georg Baselitz and Anselm Kiefer, as well as by eminent artists from Austria, including Fritz Wotruba, Maria Lassnig, Arnulf Rainer and Erwin Wurm.

AMAZING. THE WÜRTH COLLECTION will be on display daily from 10 am to 6 pm until Sunday, 10th September 2023. Additionally, every first Thursday of each month – on 6th July, 3rd Aug. and 7th Sept. – the exhibition will be open from 6 to 9 pm as part of our PORR NIGHT initiative.

The 400-page, richly illustrated, bilingual (German/English) catalogue to accompany the exhibition, featuring essays by Rainer Metzger, Sylvia Weber, Reinhold Würth and Hans-Peter Wipplinger, is available at the Leopold Museum’s shop for EUR 49.90.
