Wiener Städtischer Versicherungsverein and Leopold Museum promote young talents Exhibition featuring the nominees for the Ö1 Talent Scholarship 2022 now on show at the Leopold Museum until December 11.

09.11.2022

The Ö1 Young Talent Award, endowed with prize money of EUR 10,000 and provided by Wiener Städtische Versicherungsverein, goes to Sophia Latysheva from Vienna. Angelika Wienerroither was voted the Ö1 Audience Favourite 2022. The award ceremony was held on the evening of November 3 at the Leopold Museum.

‘Without artists, there is no art. Artists need breathing space and support in the form of lasting development and creative opportunities. That is why, for many years now, we have supported the Ö1 Talent Scholarship for the Visual Arts. Because we believe in young talented artists and that they will pursue their chosen path with success. As partner of the Leopold Museum we are delighted that, this year again, it has chosen to provide a showcase for young up-and-coming artists and present an exhibition featuring the works of award-winning and nominated young artists,’ explains Helene Kanta, Board Director, Wiener Städtische Versicherungsverein.

‘The Leopold Museum offers a unique insight into Vienna’s creative artistic and cultural output around 1900, one characterised by innovation, progress and the extraordinary achievements of the artistic avant-garde of its day. In keeping with this spirit, we are pleased to be able to offer the young, contemporary art avant-garde an ideal presentation space as part of the exhibition of the nominees for the Ö1 Talent Scholarship 2022. We congratulate the Ö1 Talent Scholarship winner Sophia Latysheva and the winner of the Ö1 Audience Award, Angelika Wienerroither, as well as the nominees Adina Camhy, Gleb Amankulov and Raphael Reichl. My thanks for the generous support go to the Wiener Städtische Versicherungsverein; the curator Philippe Batka, who implemented the innovative exhibition concept with the assistance of the Leopold Museum team; the entire jury; and of course the ORF for the wonderful organisation. The exhibition at the Leopold Museum featuring the works of these Young Artists is a sign both of recognition and promotion in equal measure and offers these aspiring artists the visibility that is so important. This showcase within a museum setting is designed to guarantee the young artists a wide audience as well as the attention their work deserves,’ says Hans-Peter Wipplinger, Director of the Leopold Museum and jury member.

The exhibition entitled Taking Action in the Here and Now, curated by Philippe Batka (curator of the art collections of the Wiener Städtische Versicherungsverein and Wiener Städtische Versicherung) features the nominees for the Ö1 Talent Scholarship for the Visual Arts 2022, now on show at the Leopold Museum for the third time already.

The young talents 2022

Sophia Latysheva is the winner of the Ö1 Talent Scholarship 2022, endowed with EUR 10,000 and provided by the Wiener Städtische Versicherungsverein for the seventh time in succession. Born in 1995, the artist lives and works in the federal capital and studies at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. As an artist, Latysheva is fascinated by the human body, a fascination she expresses in sculptures and settings for theatre performances.

In an online vote, Ö1 listeners chose Angelika Wienerroither as the Audience Winner 2022. Born in 1986, the artist lives and works in Salzburg and studies at the Mozarteum University Salzburg. Wienerroither works across diverse media that include installation, painting, drawing, text, and digital and analogue photography.

Latysheva’s and Wienerroither’s works – together with those of the nominees for the Ö1 Talent Scholarship 2022 – are on show at the Leopold Museum until December 11 (open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. – except Tuesdays – and on public holidays).
