Vienna Airport’s completely refurbished Terminal 2 opened to the public on 29th March. The infrastructure of the terminal, which will be used by Austrian Airlines, Aer Lingus, British Airways, Brussels Airlines, EVA Air, Finnair, Iberia and many other airlines, has been improved through new cafés and restaurants, a central security checkpoint and additional baggage check-in conveyors.

The "Vienna Lounge" at Terminal 2

A particular highlight of the new Terminal 2 is its exclusive "Vienna Lounge". Measuring 2400 m2, it affords passengers ample space to relax before departure. It is also possible to work or hold meetings there within a pleasant atmosphere. The terminal was first presented during a pre-opening, held on 23rd March, hosted by the Governor of Lower Austria, Johanna Mikl-Leitner, the Governor and Mayor of Vienna, Michael Ludwig, as well as the Chairmen of Vienna Airport, Julian Jäger and Günther Ofner, in the presence of the Leopold Museum’s Artistic Director Hans-Peter Wipplinger and Commercial Director Moritz Stipsicz.

"Vienna Lounge" art feature in cooperation with the Leopold Museum

When the Leopold Museum was approached by Vienna Airport to create an art feature for its "Vienna Lounge", the museum was delighted to accept. The Leopold Museum’s Director Hans-Peter Wipplinger compiled a personal selection of masterpieces from the cultural heyday of Vienna around 1900: "The design concept of the ‘Vienna Lounge’ allows visitors from all over the world to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of Vienna 1900. The high-quality reproductions show select paintings and graphic works by Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele and Koloman Moser as well as historical posters by exponents of the Vienna Secession from the Leopold Museum’s collection." On display at the "Vienna Lounge" are examples of Egon Schiele’s famous self-portraits and his unique depictions of women, above all his Portrait of Wally Neuzil, as well as Gustav Klimt’s chief work Death and Life. The furniture of the café area was designed by Thonet, while the splendid chandeliers at Terminal 2 were created by the manufacture J. & L. Lobmeyr.
