20.10.2021

Numerous complimentary guided tours, workshops and Kids Studio with free admission on 15th November

St. Leopold’s Day, the feast day honoring St. Leopold – the national patron saint of Austria and patron saint of the states of Vienna and Lower Austria – will be a special day at the Leopold Museum as well: On 15th November, which is a school holiday in Vienna and Lower Austria, OMV and the Leopold Museum invite everyone to visit the museum for free and to enjoy a multi-faceted complimentary art education program under the motto #EnergiefürKunst.

Free art enjoyment for the whole family powered by OMV

Hourly guided tours through the three current exhibitions, an open Kids Studio for children aged six to twelve, as well as special workshops for groups of children and teenagers with various thematic emphases invite families, children, teenagers and day care centers to spend this day at the Leopold Museum.

A look behind the scenes

In the auditorium, two films afford informative and inspiring insights into the workings of a museum: In one of the short films, OMV looks at the people who fill the museum with life and energy on a daily basis, what their tasks involve and what they find particularly fascinating about their work. Also on display, by courtesy of the Bavarian broadcasting company’s science and educational channel ARD-alpha, is a 45-minute film, shot in 2019 over several weeks at the Leopold Museum and documenting the construction of the permanent presentation Vienna 1900. Birth of Modernism.

Competition and handicraft pad

The artist Maximilian Prag has come up with an Instagram filter with the title Become Egon Schiele which embraces viewers and makes them part of an original work by Schiele. Users are invited to post a photo or a video using the Become Egon Schiele filter in their Instagram stories and to apply the hashtag #EnergiefürKunst. This way, they participate in the museum’s St. Leopold’s Day competition whose prizes include a private viewing of a special exhibition for two on Sunday morning at the Leopold Museum followed by a breakfast at the Café Leopold, three exclusive guided tours for two through OMV’s refinery in Schwechat, as well as five tote bags filled with generous OMV vouchers and special museum goodies.

A handicraft pad conceived in cooperation with paperlatur.com, featuring the motif of Egon Schiele’s 1915 drawing of his wife, Edith Schiele with Striped Dress, provides age-appropriate information on the artist’s life and work, and encourages children to become creative themselves. On St. Leopold’s Day, every child may either try out their handicraft pad during their visit to the Leopold Museum or take a copy home.

The art education program on 15th November in detail

Open LEO Kids Studio under the motto OMV – Circle, Square and Triangle

For children aged 6 to 12, from 10.30 am to 4.30 pm, registration on 15th November at the museum.

Exploring the Schedlmayer Collection, we look for circles, squares and triangles. Where are these shapes hiding – in paintings, items of furniture and also in design? Artists like Emil Orlik, Gustav Klimt, Koloman Moser and Fanny Harlfinger-Zacukka used geometrical shapes in their artworks in a playful manner. Inspired by them, we will play with these shapes ourselves at the open LEO Kids Studio, using colorful pieces of paper.

Pre-bookable, free programs for groups of children and teenagers

  • Gustav Klimt and His Time for kids aged 6 to 10

Together, we go on a walk through Gustav Klimt’s Vienna. We hear about the Vienna Ringstrasse, meet the “Prince of Painters” Hans Makart and visit an exhibition of famous landscape artists. What impresses us about Gustav Klimt’s paintings are the people and ornaments, while his landscapes even make us dream of summer. Inspired by his works, we will transform various motifs in the studio into “Gustav ornaments”.

  • I am Me for teenagers aged 10 to 14

Many works from the collection show artists looking at us. Do the artworks tell us something about their personality, their wishes and thoughts? Together, we look at the works by artists including Egon Schiele and Gustav Klimt, and analyze what we see. Back in the studio, you will create your own self-portrait: What is your view of yourself? What does your portrait say about you?

Start: 10.15 am, 12 pm, 1.45 pm and 3.30 pm, duration: 1.5 hours
