Graphic cabinet by Egon Schiele
In order to provide an overview of the first-rate Schiele drawings and gouaches found in the LEOPOLD COLLECTION, this room in the basement presents a selection of high-quality reproductions of the artist's graphic work. For conservational reasons, these works can only be exposed to light periodically. Continual exhibition would make them susceptible to irreparable damage such as a yellowing of the paper and fading of the colours. The reproductions have been created by the Selenographic Society in Vienna using state-of-the-art digital facsimile printing technology. In order to ensure the greatest possible conformity to the original works, all of the facsimiles have been inspected by Rudolf Leopold for the accuracy of their colour reproduction.
